August seemed to race by, but never fear, AWC members still managed to delight, publish, and perform!Three members of Litereight, Helena Sheridan, Greta Yorke and Linda Brown, travelled to a far-flung corner of East Ayrshire and the village of Dunlop on 27th August to entertain the esteemed Dunlop WRI with poetry and stories.
Their tales and poems of motorcycle trip madness, reunited siblings, corsetry woes, granny’s stovies, Mr. Right, and more went down a treat with ‘The Rural’ – so much so Litereight expect a return invitation.Litereight books were sold at the break, tea and scones scoffed, and the laughter was non-stop.
Damaris West had a prose poem, Currants, published in Soul Poetry, appearing on 15th August. Click here to read: soul-poetry-volume-1-issue-3-summer-2025-3.pdf
Stephen Cashmore reported that his ghost story, The Eternal Woman, was published in #59 of Supernatural Tales Magazine.
The Gaiety Theatre Studio in Ayr and the Harbour Arts Centre in Irvine were the venues for Mark Twain in Person, a new one man show written and performed by Ken O’Hara. The portrayal of Twain was totally believable but more remarkable was how so many other characters appeared seamlessly throughout the performance. Top marks for Ken O’Hara and AWC’s Carolyn O’Hara for her behind-the-scenes production skills.Congratulations to all AWC members.
