A Cuppa, a Chat and Plenty of Feedback

It was lovely to see so many members at our feedback evening last Wednesday, especially with such a variety of writing to share. There was plenty of chatter as everyone arrived, and we were soon ready to get started.

We split into six groups, each with a selection of anonymous pieces to read. It didn’t take long for the discussions to get going, with everyone reading, sharing their thoughts and making notes for the feedback session.

There was so much to discuss that the tea break seemed to come round in no time. After fifteen minutes for a cuppa and a biscuit, we headed back to our groups to hear what everyone had to say.

Each group took a turn sharing their feedback, and what a mixture of writing we had. There were extracts from novels, sections of short stories, flash fiction and poetry. We had humour, thrillers, mysteries and children’s fantasy, including a story that introduced us to a mermaid.

It was interesting to hear the different opinions and suggestions. Everyone approached the pieces with kindness and respect, while still offering useful comments for the writers to think about. Sharing something you’ve written can be a bit nerve-racking, even when nobody knows it’s yours, so it was good to see the care our members took when offering their feedback.

A big thank you to everyone who submitted a piece, and to all those who came along to read, discuss and offer their thoughts.

We certainly had plenty to talk about, and hopefully our writers went home with a few ideas to help them with their next draft.
