“Hot off the Press, 18th Century Style”
The January/February issue of HISTORY SCOTLAND (available in newsagents now) features an article written by Carolyn O’Hara, based on the discovery of a copy of the first edition of THE EDINBURGH COURANT dated February 1705.
The article reflects on the contents of the single page publication – from foreign news to local scandals, as well as advertisements for popular products of the day.
However, the piece also examines the importance of this publication, at the time of the Scottish Enlightenment, and reveals how Carolyn came to be in possession of this fascinating artefact.
She is delighted to report that this success came about as the result of one of AYR WRITERS’ CLUBS invaluable workshops, last year.
