The Scottish Association of Writers (SAW) has been working to support writers since 1978. SAW holds 40 writing groups within its membership and works as a not-for-profit organisation to promote creative writing in every community throughout Scotland.
The annual SAW Conference takes place in March each year. It combines a choice of Writing Workshops, National Competitions, Guest Speakers – and all within the nicest of hotels.
2020’s venue is, once again, the prestigious Doubletree by Hilton, Glasgow Westerwood Spa and Golf Resort Hotel, G68 0EW – a welcoming four-star facility, surrounded by countryside, on the outskirts of Glasgow, and an hour’s drive from Ayr.
It is usual for around a dozen members of Ayr Writers’ Club to attend the conference and, as these things are always busy and popular (the more the merrier!), it’s good to book early and in plenty of time to secure your place.
With writing clubs and groups attending from the length and breadth of Scotland, the conference is a wonderful opportunity to meet up with like-minded writing peers from all over the country.

“Yet again, we have local, national and international speakers to ensure that Scottish writing continues to grow and excite. There is something for everyone whatever you may write. However, the conference is also a time for us to step out as writers, to grow and try new things. With a range of competitions, maybe it is time to spread your writing wings.” – Wendy Jones, President, Scottish Association of Writers
