Ayrshire Archives Moves to Old Ayr Academy Building

It’s a little under a year since Ayrshire Archives, the holders of almost 50 years’ worth of writing from the members of Ayr Writers’ Club, closed its doors of the Watson Peat Building in Auchincruive, Ayr.

Carolyn O’Hara, our Archivist Committee Member, has been safely storing the many files, boxes, and a couple of carrier bags that make up the extensive club cuttings, publications and articles, at home, ever since.

It’s great news for the community then, that the old Ayr Academy building on Fort Street, Ayr, has been refurbished and recently opened for multi-purpose use. Ayr Grammar School will be moving in, when current restrictions ease, alongside a home for a new Early Years Centre and, of course, Ayrshire Arvchives and Registration.

Here’s a little look at the revitalised, much-loved building –
