Club Meeting 14th September 2011

Ann welcomed another good attendance and informed us that Prestwick Indoor Bowling Club will be our venue for the year.  We met in a side room and had no sound interference at all, well not from outwith our room!!

Attention was drawn to the noticeboard which will advertise events and competitions.  Ann told us about the Imprint competition for Flash Fiction – as this is an Ayrshire entrant only competition this shortens the odds of success so get writing!! (Check the googlegroup for an entry form or collect from any East Ayrshire library)

Scottish Association of Writers’ Conference and competitions details are on-line now for downloading and focusing your minds!!! (If you can’t access the St Andrew’s Day competition details email  lesdes@talk21.com)

Lesley informed us about the proposed Retreat in Portpatrick, 2 dates in November were given (4th or 11th) and she would like to know preferences asap. These retreats always produce great work, there’s always valuable advice on hand.

The comedy monologue theme continued without Margaret Docherty’s presence. We settled in groups and those who had written monologues read them within their groups.  It was obvious from the hilarity in the room that there is much potential for success here.  Many of Margaret’s techniques had been implemented. Subjects ranged from ‘wife/mistress’, ‘golfing nun’, ‘stand-in psychic’, ‘call centre chaos’, ‘library training’ to ‘over enthusiastic waitress’ and many more.  Enthusiastic listeners gave constructive criticism which was much appreciated.  From the ‘buzz’ and laughter of the evening Margaret is sure to have some great material to use.

Next week it’s Challenge Night, are you up for it?? I hope so.

Keep writing,

Greta Yorke
