Congratulations to all the drama competition winners. The competition was adjudicated by our speaker, BBC producer/director, Margaret-Anne Docherty.
Here are the results –
1. Fiona Atchison – The Senior librarian
This mono was simply funny as well as being well written it had a well defined character. The jokes were surprising and frequent, it drew me in and I remember it clearly. Fiona should keep writing and acting, the accent was a very good addition to the mono and she got some very good language jokes out of it. Most of all it ticked the boxes for mono’s create character, tell a story make it funny and real so the audience live it with you. Very good.
2. Gay Sinclair-Gieben – At my age.
We really liked this one because of its twist. It drew us in, we were expecting it to be sad so great set up and then it delivered lots and lots of laughs. It was well written and performed and had a beginning middle and an end, that sounds easy but it is a very difficult thing to achieve …..a complete story! We could believe it as Gay really made it sound real. Gay should keep writing comedy we think she’s very funny.
3. Wilma Scott
This was really funny, however we felt that some of the jokes were over worked and the beginning and end needed more structure as I think I described on the night. If these things had been done then this could well have been the winner so a job well done. Just a bit of work on structure required.
4. Brian Inch
5. Maggie Bolton
6. Greta Yorke
Novice Winner – Stuart Finlay
