Ten AWC members attended Greta’s read around last week. The pieces read covered a wide variety of genres and topics.
Tracey’s short story, entitled “Flowers”, touched on the subject of plagiarism, experienced at an “Open Mike” event.
Damaris read the 3rd chapter of her engaging novel about a young boy, Tristram Bennet, who, it appears, is willing to risk his life to escape from his Boarding School, but why?
Carolyn’s hilarious article entitled “Not Quite So Silent Night”, told of a visit to a Christmas event at a local Church, when one of her husband’s former students, falls asleep on her shoulder and begins to snore loudly throughout the concert.
Stephen read a piece from his published novel “Three Into One Does Go.” This intriguing story is, Stephen revealed, partly autobiographical and partly fiction and centres around three loves in the life of the main character Tom.
Maggie’s short story, “Whispering Shadows”, is the perfect ghost story of a young girl who sees strange shadowy figures who speak to her. This story has a great twist.
Marion’s written piece about “Glasgow’s Typical Schoolboy”, Ian Husband, tells of Ian’s Wartime exploits as a small boy and included wonderful anecdotes such as how Ian’s blazer was made from blackout cloth!
Fiona’s untitled Monologue, revolved around a flamboyant character, Charles Smythe, and his involvement with a group of shady individuals, one of which mysteriously dies, leading us to wonder if Charlie is guilty or merely a victim of circumstance?
Helena’s short story “A New Chapter”, told the problems of inventing a non-existent boyfriend and then being asked to bring him to a party!
The evening was nicely rounded off with a yummy supper and lots of lively conversations and laughs.
