What have our busy members been up to in March?
Marion Husband kicked off the month with a busy week, visiting Ayrshire primary schools to celebrate World Book Day on March 6th. She read her latest children’s picture book Is This the Way to Brodie Castle? to 16 classes of nursery and primary children. The children enjoyed going on a tour of Scotland with young Brodie as he searched for his Castle. Bravo, Marion.
Fiona McFadzean was on fine form, representing Litereight, at Kyle and Carrick Civic Society social evening at The Sugar Cube in Ayr. After enjoying an excellent dinner, she entertained the diners with five poems and two short stories. She also read two poems written by fellow Litereight & AWC member Janice Johnston. And to top it all off she also gave a great spiel about AWC to promote our club. Well done, Fiona.
Three AWC members have popped up in the March/April Revive Edition of Ayrshire Magazine.
Suzy Kelly has written an atmospheric saga of Portencross Castle and the Lost King of Scotland. Her historical article relates the fascinating tale of a nameless warrior.
Gardening enthusiast, Chris Palmer discusses springtime planting and weed removal in his article The Tea Boy, Creeping Buttercup and a Cheeky Robin. What a great hook of a title, Chris.
Meanwhile nature nerd (I’m allowed to call myself that!) Linda Brown’s article Wild Garlic and Highland Coos on Brown’s Road captures an early springtime ramble along the River Irvine.
Linda also interviewed the esteemed author of bestselling novels Mayflies and Caledonian Road – Andrew O’Hagan. Andrew chatted about his childhood, his writing career and his love of Ayrshire’s Boswell Book Festival. Many thanks to Gill Sherry, Ayrshire Magazine’s editor, for giving Linda the opportunity to interview such a wonderful writer.
Congrats to all on their achievements. Bring on April!
