There are many interactive displays and a re-creation of a city street during the 1900s. To celebrate the opening, Radio Scotland asked listeners for memories of their parents’ first car. What memories do you have of your family car?

Have you travelled on a tram? Apparently, when my mother was expecting me, she almost crashed into a tram.
‘You couldn’t drive a pram!’ The driver shouted.
‘I’d better learn fast!’ She shouted back.

My dad used to ride a motorbike before he married – I can’t picture him on a bike.

And what about the actual journey? Can you remember the tastes and smells and sensations of a particular mode of transport?

Have you ever been in an accident? I had that dreadful phone call about a year ago, ‘Mum, we’ve crashed.’ Luckily, my son and his friend, the driver, were fine and managed to crawl out of the boot after the car landed upside down in a ditch.

Transport features in a number of books and films – Murder on the Orient Express, Speed, Thelma and Louise. How many more can you come up with?

Sometimes it’s the journey that is the main focus, sometimes the travelling companions, and sometimes the mode of transport. Could you come up with a piece of writing where transport plays an important part?
